HealthPartners Hits 1 Million Mark!
Thanks to your partnership and support, HealthPartners experienced unprecedented membership growth in 2007. In fact, we added more than 60,000 new medical members and approximately 20,000 new dental members to break the 1 million member mark! Thank you!
Our ability to deliver exceptional care and a great member experience allowed us hold onto our members and patients, even though many had the option of making a change, or choosing another carrier.
Key 2007 accomplishments:
- Top-ranked health plan in Minnesota for customer satisfaction according to the National Research Corporation in the largest assessment of customer satisfaction in the nation.
- Overall health plan satisfaction scores rose from 62.2 percent to 68.6 percent in 2007 in our Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems scores.
- For the third year in a row, we were the only Minnesota health plan ranked in the top 50 in the U.S. News and World Report/NCQA Best Health Plans report.
- National Committee for Quality Assurance “Excellent” accreditation status, seven years in a row.
- National Quality Forum’s 2007 National Quality Healthcare award winner.
- Set the national eValue8 benchmark in six out of seven areas.
- MN Community Measurement recognized HealthPartners Medical Group for providing consistent high quality care for patients in its 2007 annual performance ratings. MN Community Measurement observed that we scored three stars (top performance) on 10 of 12 measures.
We appreciate your effort and your partnership in achieving this record growth. It’s a great to start 2008 in such a strong position. We look forward to partnering with you over the next year to continue the momentum.

Three for Free Plan is a Hit!
Since its launch six months ago, the Three for Free plan has been implemented by more than 20 percent of large EZ portfolio groups. Plan interest is led by a competitive price point that's below our HRA base plan and allows employers to save on premium, while employees enjoy three free office or urgent care visits per family member, per year.
A Closer Look at the Three for Free Plan
With virtually no employer administration, employees enjoy the advantages of an HRA-type plan with a “virtual” bank account of three free office visits – that HealthPartners pays for! With this plan, each family member gets:
- Full preventive care coverage
- Three free office visits or urgent care visits per year, per family member — that’s a potential savings of more than $300 annually!
- Pharmacy copays of $12 generic, $35 preferred and $50 non-preferred
The Three for Free Plan features a variety of benefits to please both your clients and their employees. Review the Minnesota Three for Free Plan and the Wisconsin Three for Free Plan.

Medication Therapy Management (MTM) program announced for 2008
Medications can improve health and extend life, but only if they’re taken properly. That’s why HealthPartners is introducing a Medication Therapy Management (MTM) program for fully insured members. This plan targets members currently taking five or more prescriptions and incurring more than $1,000 within a three-month period.
The MTM program encourages members to set up a free appointment with an experienced clinical pharmacist to discuss their current medications and get the results they are looking for. The MTM program goes beyond traditional pharmacist counseling by providing:
- One-on-one consultation at a HealthPartners clinic or over the phone with an experienced HealthPartners clinical pharmacist.
- A review of the member’s medications, including specific answers to questions about over-the-counter medications and herbal and nutritional supplements.
- Suggestions on potential cost savings.
- Advice on how to best use medications and how to avoid possible problems, such as side effects and drug interactions.
- Guidance on how to simplify medications or help creating a detailed schedule for best results.
- Monitoring of conditions affected by medications, such as blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, etc.
- This consultation will help members get the most from their medications, answer their questions and help them discover new ways to manage their health. Participating in this program can keep members safe, informed and help them effectively manage all aspects of their prescription medication including cost. Direct your clients to MTM Program to learn more.
New Drug Interaction Checker available to members
HealthPartners recently added an online Drug Interaction Checker to the arsenal of member tools available at healthpartners.com. The Drug Interaction Checker provides easy-to-understand information regarding potential interactions based on the prescription medications, over-the counter medications, and vitamins and herbal supplements entered by members.
The Drug Interaction Checker will detect the following interactions:
- Drug-to-Drug
- Drug-to-Food
- Drug Duplication
- Alcohol
- Nicotine
- Caffeine
Members will be given information describing all of the potential interactions that were detected. If an interaction is detected, an image will appear along with a description of the potential interaction. Identified interactions will be listed as severe, serious, moderate or unknown.
While this information is not intended to replace the advice of a doctor or pharmacist, it can help members manage their health and maximize their pharmacy benefit. Members are encouraged to consult a health care professional before taking any drug or changing any course of treatment.
