HealthPartners top-ranked in Minnesota in
U.S. News/NCQA “America’s Best Health Plans” 2008

In addition to being Minnesota’s top-ranked plan, HealthPartners commercial plan is the 33rd highest-ranked plan in the nation. HealthPartners was Minnesota’s only commercial plan featured in the magazine’s print edition which hit newsstands November 7. The rankings compare the quality of care and customer satisfaction among 700 commercial, Medicare and Medicaid plans across the nation. HealthPartners has consistently improved its standings over the past four years and was ranked No. 38 in 2007.

America’s Best Health Plans rankings are based on prevention, treatment and customer experience scores on a range of measures that health plans voluntarily report to NCQA. HealthPartners scored in the top 25 percent nationally for the following measures:

Clinical measures

  • Diabetes care: eye exams, blood pressure control, blood sugar testing and control
  • Immunizations for children
  • Heart disease treatment: beta blocker treatment, blood pressure control and cholesterol management
  • Cancer screening for breast, colorectal and cervical cancer
  • Depression medication management in acute and continuation phase treatment
  • Low back pain: appropriate diagnostic imaging

Member satisfaction

  • Getting the help and information members need through customer service
  • Being treated with courtesy and respect by customer service
  • Handling member claims correctly 

NCQA and U.S. News & World Report collaborate to rank the nation’s commercial, Medicare and Medicaid health plans based on clinical quality, member satisfaction and NCQA Accreditation scores. The 2008 America’s Best Health Plans report is available here.

National award for diagnostic imaging program

We’re good stewards of your clients’ healthcare dollars. In fact, our diagnostic imaging program helped reduce the number of unnecessary diagnostic tests by 7,000, which decreased costs by $6.6 million in 2007. As a result of our achievements, HealthPartners is one of only four health plans in the nation to receive the 2008 eValue8 Health Plan Innovation Award from the National Business Coalition on Health.

Our program gives doctors the latest medical evidence on when an MRI, CT scan or other high-tech diagnostic test is necessary and which test is best. When physicians order a test, they get the latest expert recommendations based on guidelines from the American College of Radiology, American College of Cardiology and other sources. Seventy health plans applied for the honor and the winning programs were selected based on creativity, effectiveness and replicability.

Prior to this program, HealthPartners use of MRI and CT scans was increasing about 15 to 18 percent every year, increasing costs by $8 million a year.

HealthPartners wins 3M Vendor Award

3M has chosen HealthPartners to be a Vendors Award recipient because of our proactive and collaborative account management approach, our ability to meet deadlines, remain engaged and provide solutions. The vendor summit, which was held October 29, acknowledged and showcased HealthPartners Accounting Management team for their work with 3M. This is the first time this award has been given.





New laser vision correction discount

Our new laser vision correction discount is truly a sight for sore eyes! In response to consumer demand, we're now offering a $500 laser vision correction to HealthPartners members at the Philips Eye Institute by one of four board-certified eye surgeons. That’s a $250 discount per eye! The discount is valid through September 1, 2009.

Medicare Open Enrollment tips

We’re here to assist and support you through the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period.  
Here are a few tips to keep your Medicare business running smoothly during open enrollment:

  • If you're not already certified to sell HealthPartners products, log onto the broker portal at healthpartners.com and find out how to become certified.
  • If you're already certified, call us at 952-883-5601 to obtain sales materials. (Please note: you must be certified in order to receive sales materials.)
  • Use our newly-created Scope of Appointment form as you meet with clients to discuss HealthPartners products. The form can be found at healthpartners.com/brokerdirect.
  • Fax Medicare applications to HealthPartners within 24 hours of signing and dating the bottom of the applications. Our fax number is 952-853-8718. You must also include a copy of the Scope of Appointment form for that applicant.
  • We are now accepting applications! All forms must be received by 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, for January 1, 2009 enrollments.

New Medicare compliance rules

If you sell Medicare products, you’ve probably heard some recent talk about MIPPA. The Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Acts of 2008 (aka. MIPPA) was passed into law in July and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently released guidance based on the new law. The new regulations include several important changes in how brokers can sell Medicare products.

Frequent Fitness Update

Our Frequent Fitness program continues to grow. Members now have even more choices and chances to save money while achieving a healthy lifestyle.  Now, members who enroll or are enrolled in the Frequent Fitness program will have access to more than 850 locations in HealthPartners service region.

The Frequent Fitness program offers fully insured members (two per household) up to a $20 reimbursement for working out 12 times a month.
